Looking at pictures on the internet, the 273 looks just like the 268
that I grew up with. In fact my brother still has it in his shed
although it hasn't been used in over 10 years. We never had much trouble
with it even though it baled well over 100 thousand bales in its
lifetime. In fact it still looks like new as it was always kept inside.
I'm sure the 273 would give just as good of service. Having been around
a lot of small square balers in my lifetime, you could sure do worse. I
myself own a 270 baler which also hasn't been used in over 10 years; no
longer have livestock. I bought it used, in fact the dealer wrote "as
is" on the bill. In fact it doesn't have a speck of paint left on it. I
did a little fixing on it and baled about 30 thousand bales before I
quit using it. I might get it out this year and bale 30 or so bales of
straw just to see it work again. It seems strange that although the
model no. is between the 268 and the 273 the method in which the hay is
fed into the plunger is completely different on the 270. Having run both
machines, although they all do ok, I think the 268 and also the 273 make
a better formed bale than the 270. Good luck.
