That engine probably has an anti-Dieseling valve on it that only opens if the battery works right. If you can't hear it click when you turn on the ignition, that may give you a hint about part of the problem.  Modern batteries can have problems that cause them to go completely bonkers in a couple of days to the point that you may or may not be able to get any results short of getting a new battery.  I went through that scenario with my car in the last week.  There may be a relay in that circuit to operate the anti-Dieseling valve, and those often give problems.  IMHO, it is more likely that you have a shorted battery.
