I switched to Windows 8 about a year ago. The change was painful to learn, but now OK. What helped was about the same time we took an Alaska cruise. In when cruising the ship had classes on Windows 8 that demonstrated how it works. That was a great help.
It is a little like trying to do things left handed when you are used to right handed operations. 
I recommend doing the Alaska cruise to help learn Windows 8
