Bill,
Most properties have some pluses and some minuses; that "cut through the
woods" is a definite plus. Enjoy.

It took Linda and me about 3 years to find the right place a while back.
Buying or selling a residence in the country is just a different project
than it is for the town folks...fewer buyers, fewer sellers, and more
specifics. But we finally found a place with a nice horse barn that's now
full of horsepower that doesn't eat oats all winter. The place even has a
cut through the woods to the barn that doesn't run by the house, so if I
have a particularly ugly load coming back from an auction I can unload it
without supervision!

Best of luck on your project!

I haven't had much to say in quite a while, but am hoping that'll change in
the near future. Some of you may remember that I've lived in the suburbs
for decades but have been saying since about 1996 that "I hope to move back
to a little farm one of these years." Looks like 2014 might actually be
that year.

There're some beautiful old farmhouses and barns still out there. Finding a
place with the right combination of buildings, land, location, price, etc,
isn't proving to be easy or fast but at least I'm seriously looking rather
than just thinking about someday looking.

Of course, finding a place will put a serious hurt on my tractor per acre
ratio. Right now I'm at about 2.5, since I have maybe a 0.4 acre lot. I'll
have to really work at it to keep that rate up.
