[AT] O.T. - Cell phone?

Herb, take a look at Republic Wireless. www.republicwireless.com I think
That is who I use. The up side of it is that it's cheap. I get unlimited
phone, text and
data for 29 bucks a month after paying them $150 bucks for a Motorola
Android phone.
That's a no contract deal for as long as I own this phone. They have just
switched to
the newest Motorola Moto X phone and the deal has changed slightly but it's
essentially the same.

The downside of it is that they use Sprint towers and it's all done online.
There is no one
you can call and talk to on the phone. If you can't handle it with them via
e-mail or with the
help of the kids in their user group blog you have no other way to resolve
problems.
I didn't have a bit of problem except a minor glitch getting my old number
ported to my new phone.
Once that was done I haven't needed them for a thing since.

These phones work on WiFi when available and over cell towers when not. So
when you are at home
with your wireless router it is basically running the same way as your
computer. On the road it's running
on Sprint. These guys have an advantage because they own the broadband
pipeline that Sprint runs on.
They don't care how much bandwidth you burn.

I don't have very good coverage from Sprint in some areas here but the
slight inconvenience is totally
wiped away by the savings on the monthly bill. The usage I have with
Republic for 30 bucks a month
would cost me over 100 with Verizon or my old carrier US Cellular.

Subject: [AT] O.T. - Cell phone?

O.T. – Cell phone contract is up next month, so started looking for someone
other than Verizon (good service but expensive).
Neighbors co-worker has good service using Virgin Mobile; cost would be $20
for phone and $20/month before taxes for 400 minutes. One concern is
coverage as they use Sprint towers, but
Sprint uses Verizon towers for roaming (Virgin does not use Verizon towers
for roaming). This information is from local Radio Shack manager (Radio
Shack sells Virgin Mobile phones).
Would appreciate knowing of others experiences with Virgin Mobile and other
cell phone providers.
Herb
