[AT] O.T. - Cell phone?

O.T. – Cell phone contract is up next month, so started looking for someone other than Verizon (good service but expensive). 
Neighbors co-worker has good service using Virgin Mobile; cost would be $20 for phone and $20/month before taxes for 400 minutes.  One concern is coverage as they use Sprint towers, but 
Sprint uses Verizon towers for roaming (Virgin does not use Verizon towers for roaming).  This information is from local Radio Shack manager (Radio Shack sells Virgin Mobile phones).
Would appreciate knowing of others experiences with Virgin Mobile and other cell phone providers.
