I suspect we're looking at migrating to the Windows 8 from the wrong direction, Charlie. I've been using it on one of my systems since it first came out (dual boot, and all that jazz) and an automatic upgrade from Microsoft got rid of that hang-up. I rarely see the desktop in either environment -- it just isn't necessary. What I see instead is a preferred browser that holds the last several applications that I used in the last several days. Internet Explorer and Foxfire are two of those "preferred" browsers, but I have gotten away from both of those in favor of Chrome with an occasional use of U-tube. Much better response and more "think ahead" features than is contained in either IE or Firefox. People are getting used to working with smart phones, androids, and tablets that make use of a touch screen as a normal operating environment. People migrating to Windows 8.1 are going to want to continue with that sort of interface that makes use of swipes and gestures to get things done rather than fuss around with a mouse -- wireless or not.
