I don't know what they used on the 140s etc, but we had a 460 and 560 that we put 66 Series steering wheels on and they would fit fine. These were the splined shafts 7/8' or something like that.

Anyone that has ever paid much attention to my posts knows I have grown up around the smaller offset series Farmalls (Super A – 140). I have never liked the BIG steering wheel IH decided was needed on the 140’s, I think it was on the 130’s too. There is just not room for a tall operator to drive those tractors. We just finished a 140 for a fellow that just got the tractor. He’s about 6’4” 300lbs. To make the tractor user friendly for him, we replaced the seat with a pan style to fit a Super A. Still not enough leg room so we changed over his steering, the steering box was locked up anyway. Since we wanted a smaller steering wheel, I was either going to have to re-machine his steering shaft to accept the new steering wheel, or just pick up a good used shaft from a Super A. Then we ordered the correct sector gear to match (it and the shaft and the bearings were all shot). So if you are willing to do a little work and spend a bit of cash, these
tractors can be made operator friendly for big guys.
