Every week in the summer when I was a kid, my Grandparents would come
out from the city. We would go to out yo our woods at the creek (or
crick as we called it) and have a Sunday afternoon picnic. At the
start of each summer I would lay up a new stone fireplace which we
placed a grate over for cooking. These were nothing elaborate, and
only about a foot tall. Had to be a little careful not to use
sandstone in them. At any rate, to keep me busy after we ate, I would
go into the crick and catch a couple dozen large crabs, at least a
couple of inches long, These I put into a large tin can of water and
boiled them pink. Then I cooled them and fed them to out old Cocker
Spaniel named "Twit". ( Don't look at me. She came to us used and
already had that name.) She loved them. Little did I know at the time
what good food I was wasting.
