I have used Methanol, until it got so expensive.  It works the best 
though, if you have a flat, sometimes you can patch the tube without 
having to completely pump out all the fluid.  Also if you have fluid get 
onto the rim, it doesn't corrode the rim like calcium chloride.   A 
50/50 of methanol water will protect to about 50 deg below zero F
