I think what I wants taught more than anything else was shop safety.  Use your head and pay attention to what you are doing.  Things can happen in an instant.

Take yesterday, we were setting the electrical box when I stepped back and my foot dropped into the hole for the sump pump.  Next thing I knew I was on the floor and my head smashed against the concrete wall.  Things can happen in an instant.
