According to Wikipedia (everyone's on-line Bible) it is impossible to make an engine flood when it is running with an updraft carburetor.

Subject: [AT] fuel system question

What is the reason most tractors and industrial engines use updraft
carburetors? Some early inline automobile engines used updraft but they
switched to downdraft eventually. Most aircraft engines use updraft.
Any ideas? Maybe gravity fuel systems?
