Now wait a minute!  I would disagree with the last half of that statement.  No company has given me more trouble in finding repair and replacement parts than Kubota.  NONE!  So when a good friend and fellow-collector made me an offer on my Kubota, I didn't have to think very long about accepting his offer to take the whole rig off my hands.

On the Terramite, you need to recognize that it's out-of-production and is probably more valuable as a collector item than anything else.  It's original purpose is just to dig graves in cemeteries, literally. But I would love to find a Terramite Model 1 to add to my collection.  For those who have never seen one, it is basically a Gravely Model L (two-wheel walk-behind tractor) with a small backhoe mounted out in front.  The Model 2 Terramite was basically an Economy tractor (Engineering Products Company) modified by the Terramite Company for grave digging.  Model 3 and 4 Terramite's were built by the company in West Virginia using some of the EPCO parts, and are the first models where the frame is sturdy enough for the job.

I personally wouldn't even consider a Terramite if I could buy a Kubota
of similar HP and strength for about the same money.   I can't comment
on the Allmand as I've never seen one.  Of course that says something 
doesn't it?
My guess is that someone is about to tell me that Terramite and Allmand are 
made in USA.
I don't know if that is true or not but what difference does it make if we 
are looking at used equipment?
Buying new for what he needs doesn’t make much sense.  If that's on his mind 
he needs to take the price
of the new machine and spend that on a much larger used machine.

Just my 22 cents worth (inflation you know)

A neighbors son  I know is looking for a backhoe. He has a house on about 
1/3 an acre on a hill. Needs lots of excavation. He was thinking about 
buying one instead of renting it.



I mentioned that he might be better off with a Terramite or and Allmand 
since he has such a small area. Would be tough to move around on that small 
parcel with a full size backhoe . He started looking around and saw that 
Kubota's were less expensive.



I've used a Terramite and an Allmand and I was impressed. Never used a 
kubota.



Any preferences out there?
