Herb, big Agri has been going after farmer for years now for patent
infringements for hybrid seeds. It's bad enough when the farmers actually
do cheat and violate the licensing agreement
they sign when they buy the seed but I've heard stories where one farmer was
planting something (for example) like Roundup ready soybeans and the farmer
in the next cut was planting
regular soybeans. The beans cross pollinated, the seed company trespassed
on the other farmers land, collected samples of his seed, found the
glyphosate resistant (or whatever it was) gene and sued him.

Subject: [AT] O.T.- Seed Giants v. U.S.Farmer
Tuesday, Feb 25, the Supreme Court will hear arguments about IN farmer
Vernon Hugh Bowman “illegally replicating” by taking seed he had harvested
and using it for a subsequent crop the next year. The last para in the
article “Patents for Life” that I read (by George Kimball &Debbie Barker);
But taking a few steps back from the microscope and the lawbooks, they may
find that there is a discussion to be had about a much deeper question: the
appropriate role of ownership and control over the very elements of life.
