Whichever battery terminal is grounded is the post that connects to the points.  If the battery is negative ground then the negative post attaches to the points.
To answer your second question – your points and condensor are fine.  They will operate at either voltage.

It is a bother to ask, but here goes, guess it has been too long.  A coil
should read about the same voltage from small terminal to small terminal,
correct?  Which is the "+" wire, the one coming from the switch or going to
the distributor?

 

I tried Google but had not luck.
