[AT] OT - computer problem

Do you have a mixture of OS on your local network? This does not explain your system's failure to boot, but my local system worked very well until it sensed that the majority of my computers and peripherals were running on Windows 7. At that point, those systems took over and kicked all my Windows XP items off the network. I ended up having to upgrade all the systems that I could. Some were so old that the manufacturers did not have upgrades, and I had to buy new hardware. HP is particularly noted for doing this.

I do have the original XP disk, but it doesn't seem to "take". I put the CD in the drive turn the computer off, then back on right?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Do you have an original copy of Windows on CD/DVD that you can try to boot from?

Since it's slow, I have a question for some of the computer gurus on the list. I have a
computer in my shop that I use to store service manuals, and to look things up online
without having to track grease into the house. It's also used to list to music online.
Yesterday when I turned it on it seemed to be running slow, but did finally come on.
Windows did some kind of update, then re-booted the system. When it came back up it would
not load windows. The fans are running at full speed and the screen is black, no blinking
curser or anything. I cannot boot into safe mode. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Mike
