[AT] My Stupid JD A again

I gotta second what Charlie is saying. A tricycle tractor going
backwards downhill with a trailer is an accident waiting to happen.. It
is hard enough to do it under power. Sometimes there is just not enough
money to put some of these old tractors into usable shape. I have many
of these projects that I intended to work on years ago. If the good old
EPA had not outlawed and over taxed asbestos, I could afford to buy a
gasket set for these old engines and get some use out of them. The
gasket set for some of my toys is $400. Just a head gasket for an old 2
yard Allis loader is over $250, so it is probably headed for the scrap
yard. If you can find a running tractor that is dependable, then swap
the tires and other parts needed from your old one to the good one and
keep the rest for parts. You have mentioned this tractor to be your
grandfather's. I can assure you that your grandfather would have done
the same thing. He would have scrapped the old tractor for parts for the
good one if it meant saving money or time.. Those old timers had to be
frugal to stay alive... Those times are here again...

It sounds to me that you need a reliable tractor if you get away from
home. I am the same way, I cannot walk back home due to a long term
injury to my ankle. It restricts my climbing on and off my toys and
working on them like I used to. Use whatever parts you need to get
a good tractor running, you will be far ahead of the game.

Good luck and keep us informed
