Mike if your engine is electric start it's really pretty easy.  Just get a 
meter that runs when the switch is turned on.  You can find one at a boat 
supply place.  If you've got a pull start engine it might be a bit harder.

Hi all,
I bought a new wood splitter the other day and would like to install a 
simple hour meter on it for maintenance tracking. I see some digital ones, 
but thats really fancier than I need and I question their durability. Any 
suggestions?
