John,
What about I-74 to 136? You pick up 136 from I74 somewhere between Champaign and Bloomington.

> Hey, you're in my neck of the woods. I'm in Kirksville, MO. As an alternative to I-80, I'd consider I-70 to Indianapolis, then get on I-74. It shows it ends at Hannibal, MO, but actually it is 4 laned all across MO as US 36 (I-74 turns into US 36 so there is no change in road), although it's not limited access so no Interstate designation (it's now called the Chicago/Kansas City Expressway: http://www.gredf.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/CKC-Chicago-Kansas-City-Expressway-Map.pdf). Then in Macon MO, hop on US 63, which is also 4 laned to and just past Kirksville, MO. It will be 2 lane on up to just south of Lancaster, MO (a real good 2 lane with wide shoulders and good grading, ie no sharp hills), where you can take 136 on into Unionville. I-74 across Illinois is very lightly traveled for an interstate, at least from Springfield on and is a pleasant drive. I really don't care much for i-80 around Chicago. When we go to Chicago from Kirksville, MO, I always take I-74 t!
