[AT] Storm

I just went out and checked Al, 2.3" in my gauge. I walked on out to my
garden to find most of my tomato plants flat on the ground
because a handful of branches blown out of a hickory tree had bombarded
them. I think they'll mostly be ok. A couple of branches broken off here
and there and one small tomato broken off the vine. All together not so
bad. I think they'll recover. I guess the whole mess lasted about 2 1/2
hours here but for about 20 minutes or so we had winds in excess of 70 mph
I'm sure.

Last night after the power had been off for about 5 hours and it was getting
dark I pulled a couple of hundred feet of drop cord over to my neighbors
generator so I could run my refrigerator and water pump. While I was
connecting two cords in the tall grass in the buffer area between the two
yards I stepped about 2 inches from a half grown Copperhead. I guess he was
about 18" long. Plenty long enough to have made me pay for getting too
close if he had chosen to. I was well within his strike zone. He was more
interested in getting away but because he was only a few feet from my
neighbors garage and because my neighbor is deathly scared of snakes and had
killed what was probably this snakes brother/sister in his garage last week
and finally because I had to reach back down in that grass where he was
trying to hide I went ahead and killed him.

It's pleasant here with a nice cool breeze this morning but we are supposed
to have more of the same heat and t-storm threat this afternoon.

The power flickered off here twice but came back on. It was kinda wild
around here for a few minutes, managed to blow over our 47' long auger that
we fill the grainbins with but that was about the only damage we seem to
have had. Didn't get a whole lot of rain though.
