Ok,  I guess I'd have to look at it to fully understand.  It's been a while
since I had a small engine pulled down.   I switched my garden tiller over
to electronic so long ago that I don't even remember exactly what the thing
looks.  All I remember is that you have to get the flywheel nut incredibly
tight to get the timing right so the thing will run.   I had a heck of a 
time (without the proper tools)
ever getting that thing tight enough.

Charlie, if its electronic ignition, there isn't an easy way to test the
primary. I left Don's original post below. He states that it is a mid
70s and he's cleaned the points. So........ He would have the capability
of checking the primary. Depending on flywheel configuration, he might
be able to upgrade it to electronic ignition with the newer coil. Doug T
