[AT] Ford 8N

Is a 1948 or 49 Ford 8N "supposed" to be A series or B series charging 
system?.  A friend has one that isn't charging and I am going to look at 
it.  From what I am understanding, it sounds like it has had a B series 
generator installed and it likely has an aftermarket regulator on it 
that is A series.  Which will not work.  I can fix it, I think, but I 
would like to know what it is supposed to be.
