[AT] Starter Gear Sticking On Shaft

I pulled the starter tonight and switched out the Bendix drive.  I kept the
new spring from the new starter, though, since the old spring from the '48
starter wasn't too great.  As far as I know, I think this fixed the
problem; I'll have to give it some time to know for sure.  The starter
worked fine trying the Super A this evening.

I think, after closely examining the new (problem) shaft, the gear is
sticking at the very base of the drive, where the shaft widens and the
threading ends.  It looks to be perhaps a rather careless design.  The
threads come to an end, then the gear hits the widened part of the thread
and sticks.  It almost makes me wonder if there is something missing.  Of
course, if the warranty wasn't long gone, I would be after the company!
