I like the Pat's system because it will work with post diggers, bushhogs, & is not affected by non standard width implements.  My New Holland TC40D has extendable arms and I still want to install Pat's.  BTW I have a set of category II Pat's here that I bought by mistake (my tractor is Cat I).  I could make someone a good deal on these so that I can get some for my tractor.

I used the extension/adjustable arms you mention that came with our 
JD530, and they were
pretty much rugged, trouble-free quality. The Deere issue hitch parts 
are like gold in the way
they attract thieves.
