[AT] grain drill and alfalfa

Just my $0.02, if you are sowing alfalfa in clay type soil, If you set 
the drill for 1/2 the rate and sow it going at right angles, you will 
not have as much runoff and it will make a better stand of alfalfa.  It 
allows the water to soak in better by making small pockets.   It takes 
twice as long to sow, but it sure makes a nice field to cut....
