Thanks to both of you gentlemen:

Rick, the serial # breaks out to a 1948 TE 20, but I know those are not 
necessarily 100%. I'll look at the coil and plugs and see if that gives me 
any info.

Mike, my first impression also was that perhaps the cowling had been 
obtained at a salvage yard. But thanks for the hint on the engine. I'll 
check it out.
