[AT] Chain saw sharpening

I used to work for a logging company back in the days when they still used
saws on the log deck to cut the logs to length. The guy that "sawed up" on
our deck had 3 or 4 saws. All of them had a specific purpose. One for
pine, one for hardwood a bow saw and usually one just for trimming off a
stray limb that didn't get cut off before the log came to the deck or to
trim off something that was muddy, etc. The pine saws were sharpened to a
different set than the hardwood saws and David would get mad if someone used
the wrong saw on the wrong log. Every time he got caught up (probably once
or twice an hour) he'd put he'd grab his file and go over the chains.
Usually it was just one or two strokes per tooth. I don't think David
could read or write but he had a PhD in chain saw and file. The man could
file a bush axe to where it would shave you.

My experience has been like Jason's and when I had a tract logged I
watched the loggers with their chains. They would take the file to the
chain every morning they cut. In my case I rarely use the chainsaw so
the filing is really a touch up.
