[AT] Brush hog question

Chuck, if you ever look at a Woods brand brush hog (and some other brands
too) there is some sort of linkage in the part of the frame that attaches to
the 3rd link of the 3pt to allow the cutter frame to pivot a few inches on
the lower 3pt pins but will not allow it to flip over on the operator. I
understand why folks use a chain for a 3rd link but in my opinion it is
dangerous.

Yes and no, but more no. The chain top link will allow the brush hog
follow the land instead of the rigid 3 point which would attempt
bridge the rear wheels off of the ground, but I think it would more
likely break the mower framework. With a chain top link there is
nothing to keep the mower from pivoting on the lift arms conceivably
allowing the mower to flip on to the operator. I have no idea if this
is possible or not. There was a suggestion to use a limited travel
toplink so that the mover could pivot but there would be a stop
eventually.
How's that for thoughts on the subject?
