Even in the sixties it was the popular belief here that vehicle and
machinery batteries must be taken into the house for storage for the
winter. It made for a lot of unnecessary work, especially as tractors
got bigger and had 2 big batteries. Eventually I abandoned this practice
(got lazy). Currently my biggest diesel tractor has a set of batteries
over ten years old that have never been taken out since I installed them
new. Apparently sitting out there in unheated storage every winter has
not hurt them.
