Back in the 80's our farm pick up was in the local Ford garage for about 3
months. They gave us a '78 F250 to use off the used car lot. It was really
low on oil and all I had was some John Deere HyGard (Hydraulic/Trans oil).
I put about 4 quarts in that 351 and ran it like that with no problems.

Subject: [AT] Hydraulic oil vs. motor oil
I have a leak between the power steering pump and the engine block on my
Case 430 industrial. I have about two hours of run time left before I
finish the project I'm working on. Will it hurt the engine if I keep using
it knowing that the engine oil is getting contaminated by hydraulic oil? I
can tear it all apart before I finish, but I'd really like to get this
project done first.
Enjoy, Joe
