Figured it out!  After sleeping on it, it dawned on me that when I shined my 
light in each sparkplug hole that #2 & #3 pistons were close to TDC, and 
that I could see some trash in each cylinder.  So I got my long-necked 
funnel and poured some gas in those two cylinders.  Sure enough, once I 
flushed them out good, it would turn over like it's supposed to.

So I can cross one crisis off the list......

I'm going to get some new plugs tomorrow and see if I can crank it.
