I have 2 semi trucks an 83 & an 84 model, each with about 260,000 actual
miles, and they were well maintained, sothe engines are in good condition.
They each have 3406 caterpillars. I styarted one last week with no
assistance at 18 degrees and it had been sitting for a week. It smoked
blue-white for at least 20 minutes. It runs fine when it warms up. It also
has 3 ea group 31 12v batteries. I have converted all my 2ea 6v battery
systems to group 31 12v batteries. I quit having starting problems when I
got rid of those 6v batteries. OK is not near as cold as a lot of you other
guys' areas, but we do not use light weight oil or multi grade oil either.
The Belarus started yesterday on the coldest day of the winter so far with
no problems. However it is 24v start and 12v run. All of them started with
no starting fluid...... Good batteries is the best insurance for starting
in the cold......
