This hits close to home, I'm currently dealing with points problems on a 
K532 Kohler in my 1977 JD 400 Lawn & Garden.  Access is bad on the screw 
that hold the fixed contact fixed.  I was supposed to have a bracket to 
allow me to use GM points on the Kohler coming in the mail but no sign of it 
after 10 days or so.

I was trying to explain how a points and coil ignition functions to a 30ish 
friend of mine.  I'm not super clear on the theory of operation myself but 
he had never seen anything but solid stae ignitions.
