LOL! That's the reason for the vent hole in the first place. You have to seal it without getting the air hot inside it.

John I did well on my first one two but I didn't know to sweat off that
little dab of solder over the vent hole. I got the thing back together just
fine but when it cooled it crushed it's self.

That was the first time I ever tried to repair a float and it went pretty
quickly. The hard part was finding the crack!
