I have heard of people using plug anti-foul adapters with some luck to reduce fowling on oil burners. I do not have personal
experience with them.

Anyone know what is the hottest plug available for an 8N.  Have a 
problem with either Champ J12Y or Autolite 216 fouling in my oil burner.   John
