Ralph;
Can only feel compassion for the hopelessness of some of these
situations.
We are still very dry here in Western, Ohio. Fall tillage is going very
slow. Local IH dealer has a hard time keeping chisel plow shanks in stock.
I finished my plowing 2 weeks ago. Used my 65 horsepower Case 700 with a
2 bottom 16 inch plow. Had to add 200 pounds of tractor weights to the rear
of the plow to keep it in the ground. Pulled up clods bigger than
basketballs with the plow. We did get 1 inch of rain on Tuesday and more
forecast for middle of next week.
The dry ground made for an easy harvest. Trucks and grain carts anywhere
in the fields. Even saw one guy unloading on the go into a semi truck. Never
seen that before. Guess the grain cart couldn't keep up. Crop yields here
were good and low moisture. Further west of us the crops were late getting
planted and yields were low due to excessive rain in early spring, then a
dry late summer. Lots of wheat planted just waiting for rain to get started.
