I decided today would be a good time to get a few projects done that I have been putting off, and a good excuse to use a couple of new shop toys. I wanted to build some new brackets to hook ramps to on my enclosed trailer. I had gone over the project in my brain for several months and pretty much knew exactly how I wanted to build them. One of the first things I needed for the project was a new drill press. I have wanted a floor model press for several years (who doesn't?) and figured this was a good excuse. So after buying plane tickets for my wife to visit her sister in Colorado, I figured now was the time to strike. I bought a Porter-Cable press with the laser alignment system on it. It worked perfectly and I'm glad I put off purchasing one until the laser system came around. No more guessing if you have the bit lined up right or not, just put the laser "x" on the center of the hole and go. Worked great.

I also had the opportunity to use the new auto-darkening welding helmet that Santa brought me. Why did I wait so long to ask for one of those? I did the best welding I have ever done with that thing on. I'm far from an expert, but these were the first welds that I didn't have to grind down to look pretty. I know, simple pleasures, but I actually smiled several times looking at them (maybe there's hope for me yet).

I am now inspired to try a build/fabricate a few more things, hopefully I will have more time this weekend. And before I forget, Thank You to all the Veterans out there, your service is not forgotten on this tractor junky.

Enjoy, Joe
