Charlie,

The story as I got it -

Alan (the farmer) told me that his grandparents bought the place in 1942
and that since then there had been at least 35 tractors on that farm.
After the war and up until the early sixties he said that Farmall had a
dealership within a couple of miles and that quite a few new tractors had
come from that dealership. In the fifties and early sixties he said that
vegtables were the principle crop and that as many as five Farmall C/SC's
were on the place at one time. In the late sixties Alan said his dad
converted over to a dairy operation (which Alan is continuing) and that
all tractor acquisitions since then have been John Deeres. Incidentally,
Alan is not just selling the Super M but also two regular M's, a Super C,
and a Farmall 560.

So, why is he selling ... doesn't he have any attachment to the old
tractors? That is the last question I asked him before leaving his place
last night. He said that since none of his equipment will hook up to the
old tractors (no 3-pt hitch) and that all of it needs at least 100 HP or
more to operate, the old tractors just don't fit in anywhere. And with
all his modern tractors/equipment to keep operational he said he doesn't
have the extra time to keep the old tractors properly maintained and they
are starting to deteriorate.

I understood his reasoning ... a super busy practical business man. Maybe
in twenty years he will think otherwise ... but who among us hasn't had
that experience -

Dudley
