Thanks for all the replies, the concrete guy was back out today to cut the break lines in the new cement. I asked him when I could drive on it, and he told me that if it was only our cars, we could use it tomorrow (Tuesday) which would be 4 day from the pour. He wanted me to put the barricades back up after we pulled in though because he didn't want any trucks pulling in to turn around. He did mention that our original approach was only 4" thick, he wondered how it lasted as long as it did. Mike M

Dave,  I agree with what you said but I think you are assuming this concrete 
was poured in a quality controlled situation and my experience is that 
residential driveways usually aren't.  You are still probably right but it's 
hard to be sure.
