I thought I'd pass along information about the 300th anniversary celebration 
for the city of New Bern, NC (my home).  It's a year long event but the 
events of early May should be of great interest to Civil War buffs in 
particular.

This is going to be a huge event!  One you will want to be aware of to tell 
your clients and also because of the number of participants and visitors 
that will be in the area for this weekend.
Remembering the War Years
Be sure to be in New Bern May 6 - 9 for the New Bern 300th anniversary 
event, Remembering the War Years. There will be several hundred Civil War 
re-enactors in New Bern participating in a wide selection of events 
including:

  a.. the United States Colored Troops National Symposium at the New Bern 
Riverfront Convention Center, May 6 - 8;
  b.. two naval bombardments and infantry invasions at Union Point Park on 
Saturday, May 8;
  c.. the Federal City Brass Band dressed as the NC 26th performing after 
each bombardment at Union Point Park;
  d.. re-enactor encampments at Union Point Park, the New Bern Riverfront 
Convention Center and the New Bern Civil War Battlefield Park;
  e.. re-enactor drills;
  f.. evening artillery demonstrations at Union Point Park on Friday, May 7;
  g.. a Civil War surgical equipment display and demonstrations at Union 
Point Park;
  h.. a torpedo display and demonstrations at the Rains House property on 
East Front Street;
  i.. a self-guided walking tour of New Bern highlighting buildings of 
importance from the Civil War;
  j.. tours of the New Bern Civil War Battlefield;
  k.. tours of the James City Slave Quarters and Cemetery;
  l.. tours of the Attmore-Oliver House;
  m.. tours of the New Bern Academy;
  n.. a parade ending at Union Point Park on Sunday, May 9;
  o.. a memorial service and wreath dedication honoring those who fought in 
the Battle of New Bern at Union Point Park on Sunday, May 9.
All events and activities are FREE to the public including the USCT National 
Symposium. Registration is required to attend the Symposium, but 
registration is FREE. There will be opportunities to register for the 
Symposium on a walk-in basis, but we recommend that you register ahead of 
time, on-line at www.uscoloredtroops.org.
