The OD gear set on the back of the transmission is air shifted.  You can 
flip the lever up to OD or down to direct and it won't shift until you take 
your foot off the gas.   You probably noticed that when he flipped the red 
button forward he didn't shift just let the engine speed drop and then back 
on the throttle and it's in OD.  When you go from one gear position in OD to 
the next gear in direct you can flip the red button back before you shift. 
When you let off the gas to shift it will go back into direct as you pull 
the lever into the next gear.

Actually on a Road Ranger transmission you don't need to use the clutch at 
all after you get rolling if you know what you are doing.  You just let off 
the gas as you put a little pressure on the lever and it'll come out of 
gear, then you have to know when to pull it as you adjust the gas going up 
to the next gear.  When downshifting you just have to know when to push the 
lever as you raise the engine speed.  It's not something you can tell 
someone how to do but after a few thousand miles it comes easy.
I haven't driven one in over 20 years and I bet I can still do it.
