To  eliminate the  possible  draft control   issue  move that  lever to the 
 possision  setting   which take the draft control off line.
 
it sounds to me like you have an internal seal leakage .
we had  problems  with ours  because it  had   sat  unused for  20yrs.   
and was full of air in all the  lines.
