Do I need to stay with the same brand with regard to crimping tool/fittings, or can I use any fitting designed for use with pex and crimping tool with a copper band?

I absolutely love PEX. Those sharkbite fitting are great too but I
can't afford the payments on very many of them. I do use a few for
special applications where they can save me a bunch of work adapting
from one thing to another.
I grew up plumbing with iron pipe and flare fitting copper tube. I've
used some sweat copper and it goes well as such pipe goes but have you
priced it lately... There have also been more than a few house fires
caused by someone missing a few embers from the torch work.
I have used a lot of plastic poly and the white stuff (I can't make my
brain recall the exact letters right now) and I like both.
Given my choice right now it will always be PEX until something better
comes along.
