If you want to experience a case of "terminal vertigo", get a shot of gasoline in your ear.

That happened to me once while I was working on a VW and I got gasoline in my ear while disconnecting the fuel line.  The pain was excruciating!  I could not walk.  I was finally able to crawl to the bathroom and flushed out my ear with a syringe, but I also spent better than 45 minutes crying in pain and clawing at the floor to keep from "falling off the face of the earth" from the vertigo.

Not pleasant.
