Lifting the pedal with your foot won't correct a faulty sensor that is still 
telling the engine to go like hell. It will lift a sticky pedal but that 
pedal is not mechanically connected to the throttle plates so it may not 
tell the engine to slow down. Popping it in neutral and letting it rev is 
your best bet.....
