Hello everyone,

List is slow so I though I would tell of a success story on getting a small
#%&*@ 2 cycle engine to run.
This is an engine on an old "Wacker" soil compactor. I bought it off
Craigslist a few years ago. I got it to run but never very good. Besides
difficulty starting and running the engine, the automatic clutch is not
disengaging at low speed. The Wacker jumps up and down to compact soil. This
action really subjects the engine to excessive vibration/motion. (Not great for
the operator either). The engine uses a Tillotson carburetor that
incorporates an internal pulsing fuel pump (provided by a connection to the
crankcase). After removing, cleaning and installing all new gaskets and
diaphragms the engine ran better for a while but then got worse and finally the
engine would only run on starting fluid. The rebuild kit came with 2 welch
plugs that I was reluctant to use as it involved drilling the old ones to
remove. I finally drilled them out and found a screen in the high speed jet
area that was plugged.

I don't understand what the debris consisted of, or how it got past the
fuel filter and main internal carburetor screen located ahead of the float
seat. The Whacker now starts and runs good I just need to work on the clutch.
