Larry, I share your monetary evaluation.
They would be great yard-art if one could prevent deterioration; but doubt
if either of our spouses would agree to any yard-art <grins>.
The units you described were quite plentiful at one time as they were used
to plant wheat, etc between rows of maturing corn, etc. They reminded me
of an old drill where one had taken a saw and cut off a 30" section,
installed new ends on the grain box, added a hitch for one horse or mule
and a pair of wooden handles for the operator, etc. I first became aware of
these in mid 1940's when I found a couple in top of our grainery, that Dad
said had not been used in many years. Unfortunately they were scrapped
during one of the cleanups. I saw a couple more last week when touring
the neighbors antique eguipment including the antique corn shucker-shredder
that I mentioned a couple days ago.

thought you might want to investigate the things I found last year in
south-central Tennessee.  I stopped in at a couple antique malls on I-24
while traveling to Atlanta and saw a couple push-type multiple row seeders
for sale.  They were not Planet Jr's, but they were early 20th century
items, and looked to be in serviceable condition.  Each was mostly wooden
and set up to seed three rows about 1 foot apart.  I'll look up more
specific info on their location it you're interested in pursuing them.
These were priced in the neighborhood of $200.00 each.  My thought at the
time was that they were a bargain.  I had just purchased a set of metering
disks from the factory for a Cole planter, and spent nearly twice as much
for a set of disks than for the rest of the planter.
