Gene, thank you for letting us know. I'm very sorry to hear of Mr. Girard's
passing. I did not really know him, but he and his family were kind and
patient with me during my first trips to Portland back in the late 1990s,
when I didn't know a peanut washer from a clover huller and had many
questions. I know I'm only one of a great, great many who've enjoyed the
results of his work and commitment.
Here's a photo of the Portland threshing crew from 1998. Mr. Girard is in
the back row, with the orange hat and yellow shirt.

Subject: [AT] Passing of John Girard
To all Portland attendees who knew Jonh Girard Sr., I regret to announce
his passing on Christmas morning.
John was the founder of the Girard Family Classic Threshing crew that
demonstrated old time harvesting and threshing at the Trr-State Tractor and
Engine show at Portland , indiana. This group has performed there for many
years.
John and his family have been very good friends of mine for several
years. Through him and the threshing crew, I have gotten to meet many new
friends. He will be sadly missed at the upcoming shows.
Viewing will be Wednesday from 3:00 pm till 7:00 pm at Haggard and
Sefton funeral home, 225 Adams St. Decatur, Indiana.
Internment services will be held on Wednesday, Sorry, I don't have the
location or time for that. The obituary had not been published this morning.
I will attend the viewing tomorrow afternoon.
Regretfully, Gene Dotson
