Mike I think I was a bit lucky too. My fields seemed to be a little more
solid than some and I could spin my wheels like crazy without going too
far down. In that picture I had done a lot of back and forth spinning
before giving up. Didn't want to unhitch the anhydrous cultivator and
tank but eventually had to when my brother's 830 Case could not pull me
out. Once I unhitched the cultivator I was able to drive away and with
the aid of a neighbour's 50 foot tow rope, pulled the cultivator and
tank onto solid ground.
Many were not so lucky. Driving along with no concerns and suddenly one
wheel of the combine just dropped and it was all over. Trying to back up
only made it go deeper. In many cases even a four wheel drive tractor
would not pull the combine out. Trackhoes and crawler tractors even met
their match in some cases.
On another subject , although its hardly an antique, here is a little
video I shot the other day while plowing snow with my 30 year old Case
2090.
