[AT] early winter?

We're having what seems to be the earliest snow to stay since 1965 (i.e. in
my lifetime). We now have 70-80 cm's on flooded ground and below freezing
for two weeks. There have also been hard winds for two months, I'm glad if
the firewood I thought would last all of  february will last whole of
december.
